Harbor is…

A place of safety and comfort; refuge.

What exactly is Spiritual Direction?

“Spiritual direction is a way of companioning people as they seek to look closely, through the eyes of their hearts, at the guidance and transforming work of God in their lives.” -Alice Fryling.

This takes place in person or remote via video chat/phone call within a fifty minute session.

Sessions typically start with a practice of slowing with scripture reading, prayer, or silence. After the practice we begin to discern the presence and activity of God in your life.

We at Harbor are…

Spiritually formed by a Christ-Centered (trinitarian) faith tradition.

Theologically centered around the Bible and its progression through Construction, Deconstruction, Reconstruction, into a New Creation in Christ.

Psychologically aware of human development, the mind, and the connection to our souls.

Historically based in our commitment to Christian orthodoxy, spiritual formation, and practices.

Dependent on the community we believe is an integral part of the spiritual direction process.

Is Spiritual Direction the same as Mental Health Counseling?

While we may discuss topics that relate to mental health, family of origin, and other issues; spiritual direction is not clinical and is not the same as seeing a licensed professional counselor. Depending on your needs, after a few sessions, we may recommend you see a therapist in tandem with spiritual direction.

“You are blessed when you are at the end of your rope.”

Matthew 5:3 MSG
